Highlights from Jeune Espoir’s 2024–25 Annual Report

At Jeune Espoir, we believe that young people should not have to leave their communities to build dignified, meaningful lives. The 2024–25 year reaffirmed this conviction. Despite economic uncertainty and infrastructure challenges, our team, partners, and learners made measurable progress across education, digital inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods in Dalaba and beyond.
This article offers a snapshot of the key outcomes, recognitions, and lessons from the year. We invite readers who want deeper detail to consult the full Annual Report at the link below. Read the full 2024–25 Annual Report.
Strengthening Learning Through Powerful Blended Learning (PBL)
One of the defining achievements of 2024–25 was the continued growth and recognition of Jeune Espoir’s Powerful Blended Learning (PBL) approach. This model combines face-to-face instruction, small-group learning, and offline digital tools to create engaging, student-centered classrooms—even in low-connectivity environments.
During the year, we installed a 16-workstation computer lab and a Kolibri server at Lambiri, a key partner school in Dalaba. With this infrastructure in place, teachers and students now access high-quality digital content without relying on the internet. Lessons, quizzes, and interactive materials are shared locally, enabling learning continuity and flexibility.
Classrooms using PBL look different from traditional settings. Students rotate through small groups: one engaged in guided conversation, another working independently with interactive digital materials, and a third collaborating with a teacher using prompt cards and hands-on activities. This structure increases participation, supports differentiated learning, and keeps students actively engaged. The impact is already visible. Primary-level students can now confidently introduce themselves in English, describe their classroom environment, follow instructions, and participate in basic conversations—milestones rarely achieved so early in similar contexts.
National and International Recognition
In May 2025, Jeune Espoir’s work received national recognition when Executive Director Sékou Mansaré was honored with the Excellence in Education and English Language Award at the USA–Guinea Alumni Forum. This award recognized the quality, relevance, and sustainability of Jeune Espoir’s education initiatives.
Internationally, Jeune Espoir was also featured by Digital Promise during UNESCO’s International Day of Digital Learning. The feature highlighted our collaboration with Digital Promise and Learning Equality and showcased how offline-first platforms like Kolibri can expand access to quality learning in low-resource settings.
These recognitions affirm a core truth we see daily: effective digital learning is possible when solutions are designed around local realities.
Expanding Opportunity Through the English Access Program (EDLIS)
Under the English Access Microscholarship Program, 48 secondary-school students continued to meet three evenings per week for after-school English and digital literacy training. Through structured ESL lessons, cultural discussions, and enhancement activities, students strengthened their communication skills, confidence, and intercultural awareness.
Throughout the year, learners explored themes ranging from family life and daily routines to civic leadership, history, and cultural traditions. Their progress was showcased during the Access opening ceremony in May 2025, where students performed a skit contrasting two life paths—one rooted in service and local impact, the other driven by the risky pursuit of opportunity elsewhere.
In parallel, students completed computer literacy training, learning how computers evolved, how to navigate operating systems in English, and how to type efficiently using professional software. These skills prepare them not only for academic success but also for future engagement with digital tools and emerging technologies.
Creating Sustainable Livelihoods Through SLIC
Education alone is not enough if young people lack pathways to economic stability. Through the Sustainable Livelihood Identification and Creation (SLIC) program, Jeune Espoir supports youth in building practical, income-generating enterprises.
This year’s most striking example is Souleymane, whose poultry business now includes egg incubation, meat production, and feed distribution. After receiving technical training, equipment, and power solutions, Souleymane built a thriving enterprise with multiple income streams. He now distributes approximately 20 tons of poultry feed per month, mentors other farmers, and is preparing to scale egg production to meet a demand of 1,000 eggs per day.
Another participant, Alphadjo, has made strong progress and is nearing independence. With targeted support—including a hatcher, additional solar capacity, and feed—he is expected to fully stabilize his poultry business and graduate from the program.
These stories illustrate what happens when training, trust, and resources come together: young people become job creators, mentors, and community leaders.
Looking Ahead to 2025–26
As we move into the next fiscal year, Jeune Espoir will:
- Continue delivering the English Access Program and digital literacy training
- Expand PBL infrastructure and teacher coaching to additional schools
- Complete and pilot a locally adapted English curriculum
- Support new SLIC participants while finalizing pathways to independence for current ones
Our goals remain ambitious but grounded in experience, partnership, and evidence.
An Invitation to Walk With Us
The progress of 2024–25 demonstrates that lasting change is possible when communities are equipped—not replaced—and when young people are trusted as agents of their own development. Every classroom transformed, every livelihood stabilized, and every learner empowered reflects the collective effort of supporters who believe that hope can be built locally.
